Ask AI to write code
Generate an Excel VBA routine that summarises the synthetic dataset, then inspect and test it before relying on it.
Use only a copy of the synthetic file in desktop Excel, in line with your organisation's macro policy. Read the code and understand it before enabling or running it; never enable an unknown macro in a real workbook.
Create a summary with VBA
- Download synthetic-review-data.csv, open it in desktop Excel and save a separate working copy as an Excel macro-enabled workbook (.xlsm). This is the same fictional dataset used in the analysis activity.
- Ask for a routine using the actual headers in the file. Ask the assistant to explain how to install and run it, what it changes, and how it handles missing or unexpected values.
- Review the generated code; if macros are permitted, add it through the VBA editor. Test on a copy and compare the output with expected-results.txt.
- Change one synthetic value and predict how the result should change before rerunning. Investigate any mismatch.
Here's one we prepared earlier: explore the review-summary-vba.txt (prepared VBA) and compare its approach with your own. This prepared macro has not been execution-tested in Excel. Compare its results against the checked results; the generated code may differ and must be reviewed and tested locally.
Excel for the web does not run VBA macros. If macros are restricted or you only have a phone, inspect the code and the expected results as a discussion exercise.
